Purple Data Cable Compatibility Chart

Modem(M9) Cables - 9 pin male D-sub connector

Note: These data cables have a 9 pin male D-Sub connector (see picture at left) on one end and a palm computer connector on the other end. They connect a palm computer into a 9 pin female D-Sub connector. Many devices that people want to connect to (GPS units, cell phones, etc.) have something called a "PC Data Cable" which is normally used to interface the device to a laptop or PC. A Modem(M9) cable is designed to work with these PC Data Cables. Therefore, for most circumstances, one will need a PC Data Cable along with a Purple Data Cable.

PDCH-M9 & PDCH-M9-6

The PDCH-M9 and PDCH-M9-6 are male 9 pin D-sub connectors and are Visor powered.

PDCH-M9 3' cable
PDCH-M9-6 6" cable

# Signal
1 n.c.
2 RX (visor receive)
3 TX (visor transmit)
4 DTR (~5v whenever the cable is plugged into the visor)
5 GND
6 n.c.
7 RTS (same as pin 4)
8 n.c.
9 n.c.

PDCH-M9D-6

The PDCH-M9D-6 is a male 9 pin D-sub connector and
is powered by the device that the Visor is plugged into. It is powered from
the DCD, DSR, RTS, and CTS pins. The CTS and RTS pins from the
D-sub end are connected together. This cable is appropriate when
the power from the Visor can't provide enough current. That would
be the case with the Platinum or when the connecting device draws
a significant amount of current. However, the connecting device
must provide power.

# Signal
1 DCD (power, if available, is drawn from this pin.) Same as pin 6.
2 Rx (visor receive)
3 Tx (visor transmit)
5 GND
6 DSR (power, if available, is drawn from this pin.)
7 RTS (power, if available, is drawn from this pin.) Same as pin 8.
8 CTS (power, if available, is drawn from this pin.) Same as pin 7.
9 n.c.

PDCH-M2

The PDCH-M2 is a male 25 pin D-sub connector and is Visor powered.

# Signal
2 TX (visor transmit)
3 RX (visor receive)
4 RTS (same as pin 20, DTR)
7 GND
20 DTR (~5v whenever the cable is plugged into the visor)

all other pins on the DB-25 are n.c.

Delorme Earthmate:

For Delorme Earthmate to Handspring, we recommend the cable that Delorme offers - a Visor to Earthmate cable that is 6 inches long and made specifically for the Earthmate.

For Delorme Earthmate to Palm/TRG/IBM/Symbol handhelds, you can use our PDC3-M9 or PDC5-M9.
